How I Got Started in the World of Event Decorating

If someone told me a few years ago that I’d be running a full event decorating business, I probably would’ve laughed. Decorating wasn’t something I ever imagined myself doing — but sometimes life opens doors in the most unexpected ways.

It all started when my husband purchased a business from someone who was ready to move on. At that time, it just made sense. This was something we had always talked about doing — whether it was me and my best friend or me and my husband — we always had ideas about creating something beautiful together. My best friend and I would talk for hours about tablescaping and design, while my husband had dreams of renting out chairs and event essentials.

When that opportunity came, I saw it as a blessing — something that was placed in my hands for a reason. My best friend still jumps in to help when I need her, and my sister and I are the muscle — the ones who move things around, load up the truck, and make sure every setup gets done. But at the end of the day, it’s me — following through on the vision and building something that feels like mine.

The truth is, I didn’t start because I loved decorating. I started because I loved the feeling of bringing an idea to life. I can still remember my son’s prom — I had this extravagant idea of how I wanted the room to look. I even hired a decorator to help bring it to life because, at the time, I had no clue how to do it myself. But as I watched everything come together, something clicked. I rented draping and thought to myself, We could really do this.

Fast forward to now, and I’m creating setups I once only dreamed about. I find myself picking up new techniques, trying new ideas, and truly enjoying every moment of it. There are times I have to remind myself to slow down — to stop adding more projects and instead grow from what I’ve already built.

This business has become more than just décor. It’s been a journey of discovery — of finding what I’m capable of, embracing creativity, and learning that sometimes your purpose finds you.
