The Power of Rest: Why You Can’t Do It All Yourself

The Power of Rest: Why You Can’t Do It All Yourself

If there’s one thing I’ve learned since stepping into this industry, it’s that doing everything yourself will eventually drain you — mentally, physically, and even creatively. When I first started decorating, I was determined to do it all. I wanted to prove that I could handle every detail — the setup, the breakdown, the designs, the customer calls, the late nights, all of it. And for a while, I did. But after enough long weekends, sore muscles, and sleepless nights, I realized something important: just because you can do it all doesn’t mean you should.

There’s a certain pride that comes with being hands-on — especially when you’ve built something from the ground up. But there’s also peace in learning to trust others. The truth is, exhaustion doesn’t equal success. Rest doesn’t mean you’re slacking; it means you’re protecting the creativity and energy that built your business in the first place.

Over time, I’ve had to teach myself that asking for help is a strength. Whether it’s bringing in assistants for setup days, letting someone else handle deliveries, or simply taking a weekend off to breathe — it all matters. Because when you’re drained, it shows in your work, your attitude, and your spirit. But when you’re rested and supported, your creativity flows, your ideas expand, and your love for what you do grows stronger.

As women, entrepreneurs, and creatives, we wear so many hats that we forget to take one off sometimes. But here’s the truth: you can’t pour from an empty cup. The more you allow yourself to rest and delegate, the more room you create for inspiration, balance, and joy.

So, if you’re reading this and you’ve been running on fumes — take this as your sign to slow down. Hire help. Train your team. Allow others to show up for you the same way you show up for everyone else. Because your peace, your energy, and your passion are worth protecting.
